“Handbook of international relations” is Azerbaijan translation of the collection “Handbook of international relations” published in English in 2002. “Handbook of international relations” was translated into Azerbaijan language with financial assistance of Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation-Azerbaijan within the framework of the project realized by printing house “Birlik”. This collection, in editors’ words, is a product of three years project. The editors by means of the key specialists in the sphere tried to describe international relations as an academic subject. Certainly they made great attempts to determine the target of the subject and universalization of fundamental conceptions. In what extend they achieved the goal will be determined by the specialists who will read the book. Initiatives for translation this book into Azerbaijani should be only applauded not depending on its results”.

Presentation ceremony of the book “Caucasus Albania and Albanians” by Farida Mammadova, Book Club, 15 November, 2005

Director of the Book Club Elkhan Rzayev in his opening remarks spoke on the importance of the book:

In my opinion principal advantages of the book are as follows:

1. The work again returns to Azerbaijan people the written sources, which could form fundaments of Azerbaijan history, but had been falsified and concealed afterwards;
2. The myth on Azerbaijan statehood traditions, which was widely spread among the Azeris and other nations, is smashed. It is shown that Azerbaijan has been the state with its local population since ancient times up to the modern period, and these statehood traditions were not behind from traditions of any other state;
3. Re-creates the history of the Albanian Independent Apostolic Church, shows belongance of its moral values to Azerbaijan people;
4. Shows the role of the Turkish clan played in the formation of Azerbaijan people since ancient times;
5. Comparative analysis of written Armenian sources exposes the method of formation history by Armenians – to edit history of other people, to steal, to rob written sources, to hide or to write again;
6. Proves no relationship of the notion “Great Armenia” to the Caucasus in the history;
7. Shows the key role of the Armenian Church in all falsifications, the idea of creation Armenian state in the territories of Azerbaijan and how this idea was implemented;
8. Analysis historical roots of Upper Garabagh problem and proves absolute groundlessness of Armenians claims;
9. Forms basis and beginning for smashing of the myth on Armenia and Armenians.

Of course, it is more reader’s opinion than that of specialist.

In addition, I want to state that the next stage should be comparative analysis of all written sources related Armenia and Armenians. I came to this conclusion after reading the book. But firstly translation Farida Mammadova’s book into English and its distribution, establishment of research school under Farida Mammadova’s leadership, training of young specialists would be much more better. In connection with it, I invite all rich men of Azerbaijan to finance such kind of project.

Professor Farida Mammadova took the floor as an author and made a detailed and interesting speech on the history of book creation and the modern period for media representatives and guests. It is important to pay attention to historic geography of Caucasus Albania and Armenia in the monograph, because the leadership of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences persecuted the author artificially related this issue. The author analyzed the territories of Caucasus Albania and bordering countries (Georgia, Armenia, Atropotena) from the 3rd century BC to the 8th century AD and compiled 7 maps. At the result the territories of Albania – Azerbaijan, including the Caucasus have been “cleaned” from Armenians and Armenian states. The conception by Armenian scientists was known for a long time, under which as if Great Armenia existed from 1000 years BC to the 19th century AD. In 1983 at historic geography conference in Moscow Farida Mammadova succeeded to smash this model and achieved to prove that the model was absolutely without any ground. Armenian scientists were obliged to agree but later soon they started to form a new model by not reconciling with defeat. In fact, voluminous book “Armenia. Historical Atlas” was published in 2002. In this book Armenian scientist Robert Hevsen, by Armenian birth, claims on existence of Great Armenia not from 1000 BC as previous, but already from 4000 years BC up to the 20th century AD. The work comprises 278 maps, here “Great Armenia” is “placed” at the territory stretched from the river Farat to the western coast of the Caspian Sea. Armenian scientists all over the world were involved for this Atlas making. Armenian conception yearns for prevalent position in all scientific publications.

Farida Mammadova again smashed the former and the new conceptions by Robert Hevsen in her last monograph. The objective of this scientific work in the triumph of pure science, i.e. Azerbaijan science but not immediate “patriotism” wish of separate historians of Azerbaijan who consider themselves as scientists. The author put forward an aim to prove the lack of any ground for the so-called Armenian conception, under which the territories between the rivers Kur and Araz were considered to be eastern provinces of Great Armenia. According to researches results, occupation of Mesopotamia, Albanian region Kaspiana (Artashes I), 70 valleys of Atropotena (Tigran II) by Armenian tsars in 2nd-1st centuries BC formed basis of “Great Armenia” conception. These occupations took notice of Roma Empire and its renowned commanders Lukull and Pompey routed Tigran II and succeeded to return the occupied lands. Armenia remained within the bounds of Armenian plateau as a quite doubtful state (1-5 centuries), the status of which has no analogue in the world practice as Farida Mammadova revealed for the first time. Farida Mammadova succeeded to prove the lack of any ground for the so-called Armenia conception. She tried to convince of the world science that Armenia was only province of two empires as Rome and Iran, in the 5th century these states turned the lands of Armenia into their provinces by annulling Armenian symbolical state status. Since 5th century “Armenia” turned into absolutely geographical notion. All factors mentioned above should find scientific reflection in the maps purely from scientific viewpoint, for the first time the author achieved to do it. The author succeeded to remove the notions “Armenian plateau”, “Ayrarat” from the territory of West Caucasus, namely from Azerbaijan to the territory of eastern Anadolu. According to research results it corresponds to historical truth and deprives Armenian scientists to become involved in the lands of Western Caucasus, truly in the lands of Azerbaijan now and in the future. The author compiled 7 maps describing the above processes and historical view to evolution of Armenian states as bodies with no analogue. It should be taken into consideration that it is the product of great labor because compiling borders of several bordering states equals to four year scientific work. Total number of such maps is 14 (second and third monographs). The scientist who is able to read manuscripts in the original in various languages could only do such large-scale work. Nowadays professor F.Mammadova is such a scientist in the world practice (France, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, England, the USA).

On the eve of 60th anniversary of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences the leadership of the Institute of History (director Yagub Mammadov and deputy director – Jabi Bayramov) very quickly made a primitive decision – pasting political label on the book and correspondingly to its author, in spite of profound reading of professional and hard work so important for historical science of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus. It got through to matter that deputy director in public declared Farida Mammadova “such people as she must not live among us on this land…”. Such behavior of the Institute leadership and their “supporters” inflicts loss on increasing authority of our Republic and achievements of Azerbaijan scientists in history. Only visually having a glance on the maps and seeing in one of the maps “Great Armenia” in the 2nd-1st centuries BC, the leadership of the Institute pronounces its verdict merely in Armenian - presence of similar monograph in Azerbaijan science is inadmissible. At present they mobilize all historians for discussion of the given monograph, not finding time at least to read it. Whereas, Farida Mammadova devoted tens of years of her life to this monograph. The work:
- Smashes the false concocted history (on the centuries) of Armenian people. Caucasus Albania and Albanians were declared to be Armenian from territorial, political, national and cultural views;
- cleans the Caucasus, in particular Azerbaijan from Armenian ethnic and political presence; from pseudo-scientific Armenian aggressors and armenian-phile;
- re-creates all aspects of the history of Caucasus Albania and Albanians, who were one of ancestors of Azerbaijan and Dagestan people at 4th century BC – 19th century AD;
- re-creates 2000 years Albanian culture (religion, 1500 years history of Independent Albanian Church, 1500 years rich historical-literary traditions). Thus, this monograph restores Azerbaijan people to its lawful sources and proves independence of Azerbaijan Albanian science. It could be surely stated that this monograph will make European and world scientific public to reconsider fundamentally the view to the history of Armenian people, to prevailing Armenian conception and also will make to look afresh at the history of Azerbaijan and the peoples of the Caucasus. Rejection of this work by the leadership of the Institute of History gives an idea – whom do they serve?!

At the end Farida khanim responded to the questions of journalists and guests and thanked the participants and organizers of the ceremony.
