Information on the Book Club

The initiative of “Kitab Klubu” (Book Club) limited liability society’s creation grows from the international exchange of experience. In the beginning of 2002 year the Open Society Institute has organized in Baku trainings for publishers and booksellers. Book Marketing Research seminar was carried out by the Polish experts. At the end of a seminar the group of Azerbaijan publishing has signed the report on intention to create Book Club. Further this group has issued the book catalogue under the name «The Azerbaijan editions» with support of Open Society Institute’s small grd liability Book Club has ant. In 2003 the society of limitebeen created. Club has been registered by the Ministry of Justice (Registration certificate № 0103-Р7-37386). Having estimated results of the small grant encouraging Fund has solved co-finance larger project «Assistance to development of the book market of Azerbaijan» given on consideration by a society “Kitab Klubu” (OSI-AF, grant № 11649 from December, 18, 2003).

The basic purpose of the Project is assistance to formation of the civilized book market in Azerbaijan. For achievement of this purpose the Club uses following modes of work:

1) Creation and updating of the information bank reflecting a condition of the book market;
2) Creation of distributor network of Club in territory of Republic and abroad;
3) Issuing of the quarterly book catalogue under the name «The Azerbaijan editions»
4) Creation of daily updated Internet - site of Club;
5) Education of booksellers - distributors of books;
6) Organization of book fairs and conferences;

Except for named above the Club renders to publishing houses, sellers and buyers the following services:

- Help to authors and publishing houses in distribution of books;
- Carrying out of book presentations;
- The organization of a subscription to books;
- Direct book marketing;
- Sale of books on a place, home delivery by mail and courier.

The Club has its showroom (with the area of 40 m2) and working rooms by the address: house 13, Mustafa Subhi street, Baku, Azerbaijan.
On July, 10, 2004 Book Club opening and presentation of the «The Azerbaijan editions» catalogue has taken place in showroom of Club. On presentation to visitors and press it has been submitted firstly issued in republic the color book catalogue and was told about functions of Club (the Presentation has been widely covered in periodicals). The catalogue has been printed by circulation in 1000 copies and distributed on all sides of Republic.
The sociological poll among publishers, booksellers and readers in city Baku is carried out. In the poll participated about 300 respondents. Results of poll are exposed in the web-site of the Club.
On November, 26, 2004 year the presentation of Club’s «The Azerbaijan editions» book Catalogue’s following number and Club’s Internet site http://www.kitabklubu.org has taken place.
Numerous presentations of books, meetings with writers, and also an exhibition-sale of the Azerbaijan books have been spent.

Today the Club successfully continues all kinds of its activity.
